The singers of the City of New Orleans Choir traveled to Mexico City to rehearse and participate in the gala concerts with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería. During these concerts held at the Sala Nezahualcóyotl at the Centro Cultural Universitario in Mexico City, works by American composers were performed under the direction of Carlos Miguel Prieto.
The concerts captivated the audience in a packed concert hall and closed this great social, cultural and educational event with a flourish. Thanks to this effort, significant long-term intercultural bonds were built for the singers and musicians from both countries.
A Master Class with the choir directors of UNAM and an International Choral Meeting between UNAM and New Orleans were held prior to the Gala concerts at the UNAM Department of Engineering, where choirs from that institution participated and were accompanied by the Chamber Orchestra of Minería (Orquesta de la Cámara de Minería). Each choir performed a sample of their repertoire, creating a cultural exchange. During the event’s final presentation, both choirs joined together and formed a single voice.
